Truck TV Poor signal solution!

Truck TV Poor Signal What Can I do?

Are you struggling to get a picture on your truck TV? in this article we take a look at a truck TV poor signal and how to resolve it so that truck drivers can watch their favourite TV shows in the truck cab.

My Experience with a Poor TV Signal in a Truck

Firstly as a truck driver, I have been spending nights out in my truck at various places across the UK, when I park up for the night I complete the usual tasks of setting my cab up for a nights rest to find a truck TV poor signal problem in many places I park.

What could I do to resolve the situation my first port of call was to buy a better TV aerial with a better DB gain hoping that would resolve the issue.

Although the signal was probably a little better I found that parking near a fridge trailer was pix-elating the screen, also when a truck drove by it would do the same thing making watching TV unbearable, so let’s take a look at how I managed to get a signal on my truck TV that was perfect every time.

How To Solve The Truck TV Poor Signal Problem

As I became more frustrated with a weak signal on my Truck TV, I thought “why not try the same device I use at home a signal booster for my TV”.

I had a small 150-watt power inverter that would easily power a TV signal booster?

So I set it all up in a place where I knew I could only get 8 to 10 channels normally, the result I got with such a cheap product was outstanding.

The Product I bought was a Single Output TV Signal Booster and I would like to share it with you here.

No products found.

Although The product description was for household use as you would expect after all that is what it was designed for, the signal booster made an amazing difference to my nights out as a truck driver, no more Truck TV poor signal problems, this really did change things for me.

Wiring the TV signal booster up was so easy simply plug it into a truck power inverter, bearing in mind, the TV Signal Booster only runs at a very low wattage I had no power issues at all. Plugin your TV Aerial and run a male-to-male coaxial lead to your TV and the setup is complete.

This was the result of adding the TV Signal Booster

As you can see I tuned in 133 channels and they were all perfect more choices than I could get at home in fact, when a truck passed by my cab there was no interference, and I achieved the same result when parking near a fridge trailer at the lorry park.

Choosing the Best TV for a HGV Truck

A truck TV provides valuable entertainment for a truck driver when on their rest periods, choosing the best TV for an HGV truck will depend on a few factors.

  • How much room in the truck cab
  • How to power the truck TV
  • Where to Store The TV when not in use

Depending on the size of your truck cab it will be important to consider where your truck TV will be mounted when you want to watch TV in the truck.

In my truck, I simply folded the passenger’s seat down flat which provided me with a flat surface to place the TV allowing me plenty of room for a reasonable-sized TV set.

Try to establish the size of TV that will work best for you, we would all like a 32″ TV to watch in the truck but it is not a practical size.

There are many types of TV sets, some are mains powered only but others are powered with 12v or even 24v power cable as a secondary power supply.

If your truck has a reasonable size power inverter you can power the truck TV and a signal booster from it and simply opt for mains powered TV. Ensure the wattage doesn’t exceed the capacity of the inverter and the amps don’t exceed the source to the inverter. (find out more here).

Storing the TV also needs consideration, the larger the TV the more storage space it will take to store it.

I have a flight case that I put my TV in to protect it and it fits neatly behind the passenger’s seat, another good place to store a TV is under the sleeping bunk if your truck has a storage compartment under it.
